4th Annual Golf Outing Recap

On September 21st, 2024 the Secord Lake Association (SLA) held its 4th annual golf outing at Gladwin Heights Golf Course. We could not have asked for a better day. The weather was AWESOME, the participants were great, and the food was even better! We cannot thank John and Jan Schumacher, owners of Gladwin Heights for their continued partnership to make our event a success. For those of you that do not know, John and Jan live on Sanford Lake. They are in the same boat with us. John and Jan support the SLA and the FLTF efforts to restore all four lakes in a timely fashion.

The golf outing had 38 teams this year. We were full by early August. It is always a shame to turn teams away. However, it is a great feeling to see the tremendous support for the SLA and the Secord Lake community as a whole. 1st place went to Team Hojo, 2nd place went to Team Midland Brewing, 10th place went to Team Frick. Honorable mention of last place went to Team We Had Fun. Closest to the pin went to Courtney Friedle and Todd Madden. Longest drive went to Tami Vanlerbergle and Brian Grezesak.

A new event was added this year, replacing the putting challenge, known as the 9-1/2 hole. This hole was graciously sponsored by Secord Lake Marina – On The water and their owners the Gratopp Family.  They have always been a huge supporter of the SLA.  Scott worked the hole, donating $500 to

a hole in one, and $200 to whoever was closest to the pin. Hopefully you checked out the pontoon he had on display. No one got a hole in one, Dan Muska won the closest to the pin.  Everyone who landed on green received a sleeve of balls courtesy of the SLA.

The golf outing raised $6357.45 in net revenue. $2730 of this was a 50/50 split of sponsorships with the 3rd Annual Chili Cookoff which was held October 12, 2024 at the Secord Lake Eagles. A recap of the Chili Cookoff will be disseminated in the coming weeks. Walbridge Construction of Detroit, MI made a substantial donation of $2500. Please check out their website Building Design and Construction Consultants | Walbridge to learn more about the company. We appreciate their commitment to help the SLA and the Secord community, as they have multiple employees who own property on Secord.

State Representative Mike Hoadley from District 99 came out to support the SLA by playing in the outing. It gave him an insight as to what we are doing as an association and community to bring Secord Lake back. The SLA was happy Rep. Hoadley said a few words during dinner as well. We hope to have him back next year.

Letter from SLA Golf Outing Chair and Treasurer, Brent Wilson:

“I would first and foremost like to personally thank all of our volunteers who assisted in making our events a success. Without you, none of this is possible!! I  would also like to thank Phil Dast for being the volunteer coordinator. The day before the event I was hospitalized with pneumonia. I really was looking forward to helping at the hot dog lunch again, thank you to Dearborn Sausage for donating hot dogs and buns, Better Maid for donating chips. I would also like to thank Midland Brewing Company of Midland, MI for supplying samples of their “Dam Good Beer” at the turn. I would also like to thank Wildwood Mercantile for their food donation to the dam tour event, sponsorship, and basket to the chili cookoff. They are a great new partner for our community. As always, thanks to Secord Lake Marina – On The Water for their partnership for many events.  This year the Secord Lake Dam Tour in particular, as well as Scott working and donating the

winnings for the 9-1/2 hole. Please support all of our sponsors large and small. Support those who support us!! Thank you to all who played, donated, volunteered, and of course Gladwin Heights golf course!!”

Lastly, the SLA would like to thank Richardson’s of Gladwin for the “Win a car with a hole in one” sponsorship on the 10th hole. All four years Richardson’s has provided an oportunity for our participants to win a new Chevy vehilce. No winner again this year. Who will break the losing streak and win next year?

The SLA would like to thank our remaining sponsors:
